On our recent trip to the Keys of Florida, we stayed at Hawks Cay Resort for the weekend and were in need of some good local food in town.

Eating at one of the many restaurants at the resort is convenient and easily accessible but being the foodies that we are, our taste buds needed to explore outside of the resort and head to town.

But where to go for food in a new city? Now, that’s a problem!

Whenever I’m travelling anywhere in the USA, and my belly is hungry, I take to Google with the search term [INSERT CITY] barbecue.

The result?

When in the Keys…

Whenever you are in the Florida Keys, you have to eat key lime pie at least once!

Porky's Bayside BBQ - Key Lime Pie
Our server told us that the key lime pie ($4.50) was their speciality and incidentally the only house-made dessert on the menu. It wasn’t the best I’ve ever had, but I’ve had worst. I found it to be a bit soupy and wet. It might have been a bad batch though so I would give it a try if you stop by the restaurant.

If you are continuing your drive south to Key West or planning a local all day fishing excursion, Porky’s Bayside BBQ offers box lunches for $9.95 to take away – make sure you order ahead.
