Frequented by the rich and famous, Lady Gaga stayed here the week after we did when she performed in Montreal; the location is convenient for travellers with its front entrance and lobby one block west of Place Jacques-Cartier — the heart of Old Montreal.
The Hotel William Gray is built within two historic 18th-century buildings — the Maison Edward-William Gray and the Maison Cherrier — the exterior is a mix of old stone, glass and steel. The inside of the property is contemporary with a bright sunlight filled multi-functional “living room” atrium consisting of library/work area/lounge area. Furnishings are artfully designed to inspire you to get a little work done during the day or to help you relax in the evening with some billiards and a few cocktails.
On the first floor of the hotel there is also a clothing store (OTH Boutique), and a coffee shop (Café Olimpico) — a great place to sit for a morning cappuccino and cannoli or an afternoon gelato. There is also a green courtyard, fitness centre, luxury spa, and outdoor pool.

The Hotel William Gray rooftop terrace bar is lovely and quiet during the day but, it does get very busy at night. Hotel guests get priority seating, and it’s well worth the visit for the incredible view of Place Jacques-Cartier.

Accessible via the hotel, Maggie Oaks (named after the wife of William Gray) also has a main entrance on Place Jacques-Cartier. I especially loved the living micro-green garden accent wall — both beautiful to look at and practical — we watched one of the chefs gathering herbs one morning during our breakfast. A relaxed, comfortable setting for any meal, we experienced excellent food and service at Maggie Oakes.
